Healthy Living: Let’s Get Real

I’m thrilled to share the pilot episode of Healthy Living: Let’s Get Real, a casual and honest (read: very low-budget) nutrition and lifestyle TV series.

In the show, healthcare providers share their own stories and real-life healthy habits. The pilot episode features Laura Etre, a geripsychologist (mental health provider for the elderly) who has also had significant health challenges. She suffered for years with catamenial pneumothorax, a rare variant of endometriosis which causes recurring and painful lung collapse. Then, when she was a mother of three young children, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which was successfully treated.

Now, she’s determined to stay healthy, and her everyday habits reflect this: Running every day, a regular yoga practice, and a plant-based diet. Here, she shows us how to make her famous and delicious Green Juice.

She also has used her experience for good by co-founding Dragonfly Delivery, curated wellness and self-care packages for women facing health issues (with 20% of proceeds donated to the Dana Farber!)

Check out the episode and recipe below!

Geripsychologist Laura Etre shares her every healthy habits, including her famous Green Juice recipe.

Dr. Etre's Green Juice

Laura Etre makes this fresh and delicious antioxidant juice every morning. This vegan blend has no sweeteners or artificial anything! Use a powerful juicer, and save the solids for a salad or stir-fry. Or, make a smoothie instead! The same ingredients can be thrown into a blender to whip up a bright and fiber-full smoothie if preferred.

  • 1 head kale
  • 1 bunch celery
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 apple (Granny Smith or other tart variety works well)
  • 1 piece ginger root (about two inches)
  • 1 piece turmeric (about one inch)
  1. Wash all of the ingredients well with cold water.

  2. Follow the juicer instructions and add each ingredient one by one.

  3. Enjoy your juice immediately or save for later!
