Science vs. Bullshit: Dr. Jen Gunter battles falsehood with facts, again

I hesitated  for about a millisecond before placing that swear word in the title. But it’s the least I can do to honor my favorite F-bomb-tossing social-media-savvy OB/GYN.

Dr. Gunter has enjoyed some solidly positive news coverage for her lively Twitter takedown of GOOP, Gwyneth Paltrow’s exploitative, pseudoscientific feminine products company. Lately, however, she has been appropriately addressing some seriously misogynistic politicking.

Her latest post, Science Clearly Says Contraception Is Necessary For Women’s Health (her titles are typically this straightforward) is a methodical, evidence-based repudiation of this unbelievably crappy article published in The Federalist:

It’s so, so disappointing to me that any physician, never mind an academic physician with a teaching post at a major university, and a woman (Margeurite Duane is affiliated with Georgetown), could author an article which apparently is meant to oppose basic healthcare for women.

I didn’t even know where to start with this crap. Luckily, I didn’t need to, because Dr. Gunter has handily dispatched the whole thing, using well-known facts.

For more excellent, evidence-based, scientific heroism, check out Wielding The Lasso Of Truth, Dr. Gunter’s blog, and share it with everyone you know who cares about science, evidence, and women.

Check out news coverage of Dr. Gunter’s repudiation of GOOP:

In the NYT:

And on STAT news:

Armed with science (and snark), a gynecologist takes on Trump, Goop, and all manner of bizarre health trends
