Perspective….

It’s been a rough week, with hubby traveling, baby up once or twice a night. I’m particularly bogged down at work, and I’m exhausted.

But as tired as I am, I’m also tired of writing posts about how tired I am. How incredibly hard and yet how fulfilling all this is, blah blah.

In the big picture, we have it pretty good. ‘Nuff said.

So a brief post to get some perspective:

My husband is on the road, and happened to be in Durham, North Carolina, last week. He was crossing a street. He was barely paying attention, but was aware that there was a woman crossing the street at the same time. As they walked, they fell into stride, so that it appeared as if they were walking together.

A car pulled up. A man in the car leaned out of the window and yelled:

Hey buddy, what’s your problem? Don’t you know that she’s black?

The man (white man) in the car sped away.

The woman (African-american) was obviously taken aback.

My husband was shocked. He turned to the woman and shook his head, saying, “You know, some people are really stupid.”

What do you say? What do you do?

In this case, we talked about it later that evening, and agreed that we were really surprised that this type of ignorance still exists; we hope that it’s preventable; but we decided that there is some ignorance that is so thick as to be hopeless.

I still can’t get it out of my head. Hopeless.

‘Nuff said.
